Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for your generous harvest donations. We had a very special assembly with Rev. Sue this morning- we sang wonderful songs in celebration of the event. Each class decorated their own harvest box and these all created an amazing display in the hall. The staff at Raven House have expressed their thanks for supporting their charity.

Vision

For the past week each class has voted on their favourite motto for our community vision. Here are the options:

  • Inspire, challenge, empower
  • Play, learn, laugh!
  • Together- learning and being our best!
  •  Proud to be a community school, striving for success for all!
  • Be the best you can be!
  • Believe together, achieve together, grow together.
  • Together- caring, sharing, aspiring and achieving!
  • Working hard and having fun!
  • Dream, believe, succeed.
  • Play together, learn together, grow together.

We are busily counting the votes at the moment, but will hopefully announce the result in next week’s newsletter.

School Bags

The class teachers have reported increasing problems with the storage of school bags. Some of these are becoming so large that they are causing trip hazards in various areas of the school. We are currently considering other options for storage including lockers for older pupils, but are currently unable to as school bags are so large.

Feedback from School trips

Two year groups were involved in a range of school trips last week. Year 4 went to Techniquest to do some scientific exploration! Their behaviour was exemplary.

Year 6 attended ‘Crucial Crew’ where they were involved in a range of workshops and activities with the emergency services. The children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.

Some Year 6 pupils were chosen to represent our school at an education exhibition in the City Hall by ‘Upbeat Music.’ They performed during a break in proceedings and were brilliant. Clips of their performance can be viewed on Twitter. Well done Year 6.

Parental Consultations

I hope you all received your invites for the parental consultations, which were distributed on Friday. If you have difficulties attending at the designated time, please contact school to discuss alternatives with your child’s class teacher.

Please note- there will be no after school clubs next week due to the consultation evenings, except football clubs.

Attendance

As you know, Newport City Council is committed to improving the attendance of its pupils. Our EWO Mr Tony Hampson visits the school to regularly track and monitor the attendance of our pupils. Over the next term, he will be making unannounced visits to school to monitor lateness. The first of these was undertaken last week.

As part of the visit, a note was made of those children who had attendance below 90% in the last academic year. These parents will shortly receive a letter.

Half Termly reviews will take place and those children whose attendance falls below 90% will be advised accordingly.

New Attendance Panel –   Parents of children who have persistent absences will be invited to attend an Attendance Panel meeting with the EWO to discuss ways to support them to ensure better attendance.

PFA

The next meeting of the PFA will take place in the meeting room at school on Friday, 20th October at 9am. New members are very welcome.

Sharing Celebrations

Congratulations to Brandon F (Yr6EM) who has been selected for Newport Schools Rugby.

Community News

There will be a Community Litter Pick on Sunday 22nd October at 10.30am at Marshfield Village Hall. Please come along to support this event as there has been a huge increase in the volume of litter on Marshfield Road.

Greetings again Marshfielders! As you know, we are the Marshfield Bloggers and we will give you an update every week about our Marshfield children’s lives. This week we have been exploring the lives of…

YEAR 1

We have been talking to a few children from Year 1 and their teachers (Mrs James and Mrs Lewis). We hope you enjoy this week’s blog.

During lessons, Year 1 have been making and tasting their delicious vegetable soup, which they have made for harvest. In addition, they have been writing step-by-step instructions for their yummy recipe. In Maths, they are doing data handling using pictograms and other diagrams. However, in P.E they have been doing body schooling, which involves having a long exercise. Currently in art, they have been exploring close, observational fruit drawings.

In their free time, they have been lucky enough to do the Arbeez challenge! This involves passing their spellings to a new level with the help of Arbeez. This has helped their literacy and spelling skills improve.

Thanks for reading, we hope you will stay in touch and read next week’s blog about…

YEAR 2
