Dear Families,

I was so proud of our children last night competing at the Urdd Eisteddfod qualifying round at Cwm Rhymney Secondary. The children were very excited to be competing in both creative dance and recorder consort. Both performances were outstanding, with the dancers coming third and the recorder group also going through to the Urdd Eisteddfod in Bridgend in the May half term. Thank you parents who were able to support us there, and also to the equally talented teaching team of Mrs Packer and Mrs Bright for dance and recorder input respectively. Also ‘diolch’ to Miss Wilson, our Welsh Coordinator and Mrs Johnson of the Office for organising this.

As you already know I am sadly retiring this summer. Wednesday’s letter from the Chair of Governors Rev Sue Collingbourne informed parents that the governors have been successful in appointing Mrs Lisa Lewis as the new head of Marshfield Primary starting this September. Please see page 2 for Rev Sue’s letter if you missed it. I am delighted to be meeting Mrs Lewis next week and the school and community is looking forward to shortly welcoming her on board HMS Marshfield!

A reminder that next Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th April we have Parents Evenings – with appointment times having gone home last week from class teachers. We would ask all parent/carers to ensure they are on time for their appointment please, allowing extra time to view their child’s work etc. Also, if you are unable to find a babysitter and will be accompanied by both school pupils and younger children – that children please bring along a book or ‘silent’ ipad /console to keep them entertained ( i.e. no noise please). This will ensure the main hall and corridors are quiet, calm areas for parent/carers to look at their child’s work etc. Mrs Pearce our Family Officer and Additional Learning Needs Coordinator is still poorly, but I will be available both evenings, if you have any concerns or issues.

Please note, no after school clubs next week.

* Great feedback from our recent well attended English Parent Information Sessions for both Foundation Phase, and KS2. Many thanks to English team leaders – Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Lewis, also Mrs Elliott and Mrs Lane . If you

were unable to join us, but would like a copy of the hand-outs – please let the Office know.

* Very proud to announce that last Friday’s Red Nose Day raised a staggering £1104.07 with 6LD raising £239.08 and 6RW raising £215.06. Diolch to all at our party themed day which included a giant whole school conga! Diolch especially for those delicious cakes which helped raise even more money for Comic Relief.

* Please help us to help you, by having the right money if you wish to purchase anything from the School Office, including ties at £3.50 or £4.50 each, as we have a limited amount of change available. A reminder please to ensure all school and personal clothing (including ties) are clearly identifiable with the child’s name written in permanent pen. Diolch.

Hwyl Mrs Alison Steel, Headteacher

BOOK AMNESTY

We are delighted with the new reading books that have arrived thanks to the generosity of our wonderful PFA. However, here’s a heartfelt plea from our staff:’ Do you have any school reading books still at home under bed, sofas or in toy boxes/bookcases/cars? An amnesty is offered for the return of any school books still lurking around at home please, please have a good look around for these ‘stray critters ! Diolch.’

Wednesday 29th March 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you know, Mrs Alison Steel has decided to retire as Headteacher of Marshfield Primary School at the end of this summer term 2017, and we wish her well. Recently a recruitment process for a new Headteacher was undertaken, and I am pleased to inform you that the Governing Body has appointed Mrs Lisa Lewis to the post of Headteacher for Marshfield Primary School, commencing September 2017.

Mrs Lewis is an experienced and highly successful primary headteacher at Penllwyn Primary near Caerphilly. We look forward to welcoming her aboard at Marshfield Primary and the community.

We firmly believe Mrs Lewis has the energy, expertise and enthusiasm to ensure Marshfield Primary continues to give our children the opportunity to achieve their best in a healthy and happy environment, whilst building on the strengths and successes of our ‘Green’ rated school.

Yours sincerely

Rev. Sue Collingbourne

Chair of Governors

PARENT PAY ARREARS

The kitchen have recently experienced difficulties with their tills resulting in pupils not being charged for meals for the last 9 days. The tills are now up and running and the accounts have now been correctly charged. Please, therefore, check your child’s account as they may have now slipped into arrears without your knowledge.
