Dear Families,

Get this in your diary! We are hurtling towards the end of the school year and busy preparing for the 2017 Evening Exhibition next Thursday 3.30-5.30pm – when we open the school for a community celebration of this year’s fabulous learning through music, dance and art. Come and see our energetic Pupil Councils at work celebrating our school focus this year of Gyda’n Gilydd/ Altogether, including ECO Council showing off the pond and new garden; get healthier with Healthy Schools Council etc. Refreshments available and a good time guaranteed. Do come!

What a fabulous time we all had at last week’s sun scorched Sports Day. Diolch to all for the positive feedback for our new Sports Day arrangements that ensured year groups had a designated time slot to compete (then returning to class) whilst retaining that spirit of competitiveness and fun. Every child took part, and we are proud of their ’have a go’ attitude (including those taking part in the KS2 parent races!). The winning House was announced at next day’s assembly and simultaneously on Twitter (thanks Miss Davies!). The 2017 Sports Day results are as follows:

1st Melyn/Yellow 853 House Points

2nd Glas/Blue 697 House Points

3rd Coch/Red 686 House Points

4th Gwyrdd/Green 579 House Points

Staffing news – llongyfarchiadau to TA Mrs Bosley in Year 3 who will be joining Mrs Davies on teacher training courses. We will also say goodbye in September to Miss Williams of Nursery – all these lovely ladies will be sorely missed. Also, hankies at the ready, to say a very fond farewell for the dynamic Miss Ryan who has been doing maternity cover in Year 3. Her last day will be Tuesday 11th July.

Next week sees our Transition Programme continue with :

· new Nursery Home visits

· new Reception children visit their new teacher and classroom on their allocated afternoon slot next week.

· Move Up Morning for Years R-5 on Wednesday 5th July when classes will move to their new classroom and spend their morning with their new teacher for September. There will be no ‘mixed’ classes this September i.e. individual class memberships will remain the same. In next Wednesday’s newsletter, look out for the breakdown of class teachers for September for the whole school for you to peruse.

· Wednesday 5th also sees Bassaleg School welcoming their new Year 7 pupils. Please note - transporting your child to and from Bassaleg that day will be each parent’s responsibility, not Marshfield School’s.

Last Friday, rain held off for a magnificent PFA Summer Fayre on the back field. What a fun time everyone had with lots of stalls, bouncy slides and refreshments (including mouthwatering burgers from ‘Y Maerun’) All money raised by the PFA is much needed and appreciated by the school to help pay for classroom equipment and expert visitors such as the artists , musicians for our enriching WOW days etc. Diolch to Bhavna, Emma and the whole PFA team for organising this and to families, staff and our local community for helping support. Don’t forget Sunday 16th sees the Village and PFA Circus – tickets only £10.

· The PFA also helps pay for Year 6 to visit the Urdd centre at Llangrannog. Last Thursday, Year 6 parents joined us in the hall for a Llangrannog information session. The children leave next Friday 7th July for their Urdd weekend– please ensure they have a packed lunch to eat in school before they go. Also all parental forms (including the Behaviour Agreement Form) must be signed and returned to the office asap please.

· This Saturday at 11am our singers will open St Mary’s Church Fayre. Please can all singers ensure they are wearing school uniform please. See you there!

· This week, saw our youngest children in Nursery perform their End of Year Celebration to their proud families. Not a dry eye in the house! This Nursery Class of 2016-17 were the first children to experience our brand new nursery at Marshfield Primary. Our congratulations to them and our Nursery team of Mrs Lane and Miss Williams – bendigedig!

· Today, we watched a fabulous Year 2 Presentation to Parents - ardderchog. Again, not a dry eye in the house!

· Next week will be the last week of school clubs. N.B. no clubs obviously

next Thursday 5th with the Evening Exhibition on.

· Dinner money arrears - letters will come home next week. Please ensure debts are cleared asap as children will then have to bring in sandwiches until that debt is cleared. Please see me, if you have any queries.

· Reports out (photocopier willing) on Thursday 13th July, hopefully along with national testing assessments ( Years 2-6) via Welsh Government.

· Great news – we have our second scooter rack courtesy of new head to be Mrs Lisa Lewis. Diolch from us all for winning this for your new school in September!

· Sadly our beautiful school and community have been subject to burglars and vandals. Look out for a letter home form the children soon telling you how it’s affected the youngest residents in our community.

· The group photos have arrived and will be sent out in the next few days and we ask if they could kindly be returned to the office by the 7th July – thank you.

· DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – there will be a peripatetic music concert on the 13th July at 2pm for all players of brass, strings and woodwind. This is open for parents and would be lovely if you could come along and support this lovely event.

Hwyl - Mrs Alison Steel, Headteacher
