Spring Term W/C 23rd April 2018

We have our final class assembly this week for parents of Reception pupils. We very much hope that you are able to join us- it will be a real treat!

Some parents have asked about the new uniform and when they are able to make orders. The PFA is attending the open evenings for the new starters and will finalise a date on Friday for an open afternoon for all other parents. The school would like to thank all the members of the team for their hard work and dedication.

Following parental interest for children in reception and Year 1 to have personal access to the school’s ‘MyMaths’ online website, we are pleased to inform you that every child has been set up with their own username and password. These will be sent home via SeeSaw and an information book will come home via pupil post by the end of this week. Mrs Lawrence-Dent has arranged for two parent information sessions at either 2.45pm or 5.30pm on Thursday, 17th May.  These will take place in Mrs. Elliott’s classroom.

Donations to school

We would like to extend our thanks to those of you who have made donations to school- most recently Lego and gardening equipment. This has allowed us to initiate Clubs and activities that enrich children’s experiences. Thank you too to the Y Maerun Pub for the recent donation following their community Easter egg hunt.

National Tests

Please be reminded that National Tests commence for pupils in Year 2- Year 6 on May 2nd until May 10th.  Could you please ensure their attendance, particularly on these days.

Bassaleg Transition Days

The Bassaleg staff will be visiting Year 6 on Monday 21st May at 9.30am for only those children who have been allocated a place at Bassaleg.

Cows on Tour

We are thrilled to announce that Marshfield Primary School has been chosen by the Cows on Tour group for their next visit. This is being arranged by a group of NFU farmers from Wales, including one of our own community members, Mrs. Shervington-Jones. The event has been arranged for Friday 11th May and will be a very busy day for children and adults alike! The children do not need to wear school uniform- something more serviceable like jeans would be ideal.

The next PFA meeting has been arranged for Friday 27th April at 9am and will take place in the school’s meeting room. New members are very welcome.

Sharing Celebrations

Congratulations to Morgan S (Yr6LD) and Amulya K (Yr6LD) who were part of the team that won the South Wales Under 11s Championship yesterday. The team have lost only 1 game all season and conceded no goals in their Finals yesterday. They will now be competing in the Welsh Championships THIS Sunday in Newtown.

Congratulations, also, to Cameron E (Yr6EM) who had a personal best of 4.6m in the Under 13s Boys Long Jump at the Youth Development League on Saturday. It has put him 1st in Wales and 18th overall in the UK for Under 13 boys.

Congratulations, also, to Ava C (Yr4HW) and James C (RecNJ) who took part in the Delancey UK School Chess Megafinal at the weekend playing against the best chess players across South Wales. Ava won all 6 rounds in the Girls Under 9s to clinch the first prize trophy and the title “Suprema”! She will go on to compete in the Gigafinal in Solihull in July.

Finally, congratulations to Lilly P (Yr3JH/DLW) who, on the weekend, took part in a Wales v England Marching Jazz Band competition on the mace, and was awarded 1st place in the 1st Division.

Please be reminded that clubs will commence this week.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Mrs. L. J. Lewis
